Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has underscored the critical need for expanded electricity access in rural Nigerian communities, framing infrastructure development as a catalyst for broader socio-economic growth. Speaking in Abuja following his inauguration as the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) board, Fayose noted that underserved areas currently face significant limitations in recreation and commerce due to persistent energy deficits.

The REA governing board was officially sworn in by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe. The administration aims to accelerate the Federal Government's ongoing initiatives to bring reliable power to unserved and underserved regions across the country.

In addition to Fayose's appointment, the ceremony marked the formal installation of Abba Aliyu as the Managing Director of the agency, alongside the onboarding of board members Ahmadu Abubakar, Ilyasu Makinta, and three additional non-executive directors. Leadership emphasized that addressing power supply challenges remains central to improving the quality of life and economic productivity in rural areas.
