Aggrieved members of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Edo South Senatorial District have dismissed the party’s newly formed National Reconciliation Committee, characterizing the initiative as an ineffective measure that fails to address core grievances stemming from controversial primary elections.
Speaking through a statement issued by Agbonaye Osazee Ofo, the faction argued that internal peace cannot be achieved without addressing fundamental electoral disputes. The members contended that the committee's primary purpose is to compel compliance and manufacture acceptance of unfair outcomes rather than to pursue genuine conflict resolution.
The statement emphasized that the party leadership must prioritize establishing the facts surrounding the primaries, examining election records, and providing credible remedies for disputed results. According to the group, true party unity relies on transparency and the protection of internal democratic processes rather than the suppression of legitimate protests.
While acknowledging the personal credibility of the committee's prominent figures, including Prof. Pat Utomi and Engr. Buba Galadima, the members maintained that respected individuals cannot validate a flawed selection process without the independent authority to overturn illegitimate decisions.
The faction urged the national leadership to abandon tactics aimed at enforcing conformity and instead subject contested matters to independent arbitration. They concluded that political credibility begins internally, and a party seeking broader public trust must first demonstrate a firm commitment to fairness and due process within its own ranks.
