The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) on October 20, alongside the presentation of certificates of return for the upcoming 2027 general elections. National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas shared the update during a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, emphasizing that these moves are key steps in preparing the party for the next electoral cycle.

According to Cleopas, the National Working Committee (NWC) has finalized the PCC framework and shared it with the party's presidential and vice-presidential candidates for final consultation. This collaborative review ensures that critical leadership roles—such as the Director-General, Deputy Director-General, Finance Director, Director of Mobilisation, and official spokesperson—are filled by individuals who reflect the candidates' vision and contributions. The party is intentionally taking a methodical approach to these appointments to maintain internal unity and prevent campaign disruptions.

Despite public discussions surrounding the timing of the campaign council's launch, the NDC remains focused on active groundwork. Presidential candidate Peter Obi and vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso have been connecting directly with citizens through nationwide town hall meetings, with recent stops in Rivers, Sokoto, and Kaduna, and an upcoming event scheduled in Enugu on October 15.

At the grassroots level, the NDC has activated state structures to organize robust election-day representation. Working closely with candidates across all levels—senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship, and state assembly—the party is actively recruiting and preparing polling agents to safeguard votes. Cleopas emphasized that protecting votes goes hand-in-hand with voter awareness, encouraging citizens to stay vigilant and ensure their ballots are properly accounted for.

Addressing the role of grassroots organizations, Cleopas clarified the boundary between campaign mobilization and party administration. While welcoming vital grassroots groups such as the OK Movement and the Obidient Movement, he stressed that administrative authority remains strictly with the constitutionally recognized party structures. He praised the Obidient Movement as a valued and essential partner in electoral mobilization while noting that support groups operate best within their designated advocacy roles to prevent friction.
