Tinubu Visits Jos, Vows to End Cycle of Violence Following Palm Sunday Massacre

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his condolences to the families of victims of the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, assuring them that such a tragedy will not recur.

The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected bandits on Sunday evening at a popular bar in the community, left at least 28 people dead and several others injured, according to the Plateau State Police Command. In response, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew across the affected local government area to contain the situation.

Public outrage intensified following the circulation of a viral video showing a grieving mother holding the lifeless body of her teenage son, identified as Promise, pleading for him to wake up.

Speaking on Thursday in Jos, the state capital, President Tinubu expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved families, acknowledging that no financial compensation could adequately make up for their loss.

“There is nothing I can give you, whether in billions, that can truly console you. I can only promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” the president said. “I understand the pain and agony you are going through. Only God can grant you comfort and healing.”

The president assured victims’ families of the federal government’s commitment to providing support while ensuring that justice is served. He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

“As a government, we will do our best to support and stand with you. The most important outcome is that justice is achieved,” he added.

Tinubu also announced plans to enhance security measures in the area, including the immediate installation of surveillance cameras to aid law enforcement agencies in identifying and tracking perpetrators.

Furthermore, he called on community leaders and residents to collaborate in addressing the root causes of violence and fostering peaceful coexistence.

“We must collectively break the cycle of violence, ignorance, poverty, and hopelessness,” he said.

The president reaffirmed the federal government’s intention to explore avenues for providing relief to affected families, noting that while lost lives cannot be restored, efforts will be made to offer meaningful support.
