Senator Shehu Buba Umar of the Bauchi South Senatorial District has voluntarily turned himself in to security agencies to address serious public allegations connecting him to terrorism financing, banditry, and kidnapping. Addressing a press conference in Bauchi, the senator stated that he has nothing to hide and welcomes a professional, thorough investigation rather than engaging in political debate.
Drawing on his past service in the National Assembly involving national security and intelligence coordination, the senator explained that his prior work required sensitive collaborations with the military and intelligence services. He maintained that these legitimate counter-security operations have been intentionally distorted by political opponents to falsely imply criminal associations.
Rather than relying solely on public denials, Buba emphasized that formal institutional scrutiny is necessary for matters of national security. Legal steps have already been initiated, including a petition filed with the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025 that led to ongoing criminal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, alongside separate legal actions and an Interpol referral targeting the primary sources of the claims.
Challenging his accusers to bring forth any tangible proof to the authorities, the senator warned that individuals who manufactured and distributed false allegations must face accountability under the law if no evidence is produced. He urged his supporters across Bauchi State and the country to remain peaceful, avoid retaliation, and allow lawful processes to resolve the situation, reaffirming his dedication to public service and justice.
