The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit and upload lists of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates for the upcoming February 2027 general elections.

Announced by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the adjustment moves the final submission date from the original schedule of Saturday, August 8, 2026, to Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

According to the commission, the extension was granted in response to numerous appeals from political parties requesting additional time to finalize and upload their candidate nominations onto the dedicated portal.
