Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that he will not act as a political godfather or attempt to control his successor's administration following the conclusion of his tenure in 2027. Speaking during a Hijrah 1448 luncheon hosted for the Muslim community at the Government House in Ibadan, the governor emphasized that leadership should focus on public service rather than maintaining influence after leaving office. He noted that his administration would prioritize a seamless transition, allowing the incoming leader to govern independently and fulfill the aspirations of the state's residents.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Governor Makinde urged voters to evaluate candidates based on competence, character, and dedication to public service rather than ethnic, religious, or primordial affiliations. He encouraged citizens to hold political aspirants accountable and prioritize leaders committed to citizens' welfare and overall state development.
Reiterating his commitment to governance, the governor assured residents that the remainder of his term would concentrate on consolidating previous achievements and delivering impactful projects. He expressed gratitude to the people of Oyo State and the Muslim community for their sustained support and partnership over the past eight years, pledging that his administration will continue working to ensure inclusive governance for all segments of the population.
