Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the federal government to ensure the upcoming Osun governorship election remains free, fair, and untainted by partisan interference. Addressing the ADC National Youth Leadership Summit in Abuja, Atiku described the election as a crucial benchmark for Nigeria's electoral integrity heading toward the 2027 general elections.

He expressed strong concern over the heavy security presence planned for the August 15 poll, arguing that democratic elections require civil engagement rather than military-style operations. Furthermore, he questioned the disparity in resource allocation, contrasting the massive deployment for elections with the security measures applied against armed groups and bandits nationwide.

Addressing the electoral body, Atiku called for absolute transparency, warning against technical failures, voting delays, or manipulation of results. He emphasized that state institutions must remain impartial rather than serve partisan interests.

In addition to the upcoming polls, Atiku renewed questions regarding the educational credentials submitted to INEC by President Bola Tinubu. Citing constitutional provisions on candidate disqualification, he pointed to alleged discrepancies in dates, signatures, and degree descriptions across different versions of the certificate. He argued that public office seekers must be held to the same standards of accountability expected of ordinary citizens.

Concluding his address, Atiku encouraged greater political involvement among young Nigerians, committing to reserve a significant portion of future legislative tickets for candidates under forty. He urged youth to move beyond online activism and engage directly in the political process to shape the nation's future.
