The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday night adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, emerged as the consensus choice during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat along Abiola Way in Abeokuta.

The meeting, convened by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, was attended by key stakeholders, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governor Olusegun Osoba, and other prominent party leaders such as Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, and Gbenga Obadara.

The decision followed an appeal by Governor Abiodun to other aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, urging them to step down in support of Adeola in the interest of party unity.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify their trust. He assured that he would sustain the state’s development trajectory, describing Ogun as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies and a leading industrial hub.

He also emphasized his commitment to unity within the party and across the state, promising to build on existing achievements while fostering peace, progress, and inclusiveness.

Adeola further assured stakeholders that his leadership would consolidate the gains recorded in recent years and work towards advancing Ogun State to greater heights.
